Lin-Manuel Miranda is going for full on ubiquity. He’s bent the American theater to his will. He’s embedded himself into the consciousness of our children by working with Disney on Moana and Mary Poppins, and it seems now that he has designs on the highest echelon of our pop culture machine: The Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Meet the Movie Press, Miranda recently told one of the hosts that he would be very interested in taking a crack at the MCU if he got to paste on the spandex body suit of Carnage, a progeny of sorts of the dark Spidey villain Venom that we saw in Spider-Man 3. “[Miranda] is a big fan of Marvel,†said host Simon Thompson. “And there is one particular character that he would actually like to play. It’s Carnage. He said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in [the MCU] as a character, he wants to be Carnage. Genuinely as a fan, he would love to play Carnage. That’s a goal of his.†The human identity of Carnage is a serial killer named Cletus Kasady. Kasady merged with the offspring of Venom, and the symbiote amplified his already psychotic nature, making him essentially an even more dangerous and terrifying than that which he sprang from. So, very Lin-Manuel Miranda.
