It appears that Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of Donald Trump isn’t the only Saturday Night Live sketch drawing controversy. During the most recent edition of SNL’s Weekend Update, co-anchor Colin Jost poked fun at Tinder’s new gender options, which allow transgender and gender-nonconforming users the option to choose from dozens of new gender alternatives. “The dating app Tinder announced a new feature this week which gives users 37 different gender identity options,†Jost said. “It’s called ‘Why Democrats lost the election.’†Social-media backlash from the trans community was swift, although Jost himself has only responded to one account, the queer punk duo PWR BTTM:

Prior to this Twitter conversation, Jost defended the joke by linking to a New York Times op-ed about the “end of identity liberalism,†although that tweet, too, received a fair bit of backlash as well. As of now, neither Jost nor his Update co-host Michael Che has yet to comment further on the matter.
