In between gigs playing the deadly Black Widow for Disney, Scarlett Johansson has played a man-eating alien (Under the Skin), a woman who can control space and time with her brain (Lucy), and next year we’ll see her as the iconic Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell. In other words, Johansson isn’t taking soft swings. And now, according to Deadline, she’s signed on for another intrigue-laden role for the screen adaptation of Tangerine, a movie based on the debut novel by Christine Mangan. Johansson will play Alice Shipley, a woman living in Morocco in the 1950s who reconnects with her old college roommate, Lucy, a woman who may or may not have been involved with the death of her old boyfriend. In an extra twist, when the two women come together again, it’s Lucy’s husband who ends up dying: “The mystery leaves Alice to wonder if Lucy is as dangerous as she thinks or whether she is imagining things.†Scarlett Johansson, a dangerous woman for men onscreen.
