Straying from a traditional opening monologue format on Saturday Night Live, Dave Chappelle decided to open the show by performing a stand-up set dedicated to all of the various bad things that have happened in 2016. Throughout the short set, the first-time host touched on the new President-elect Donald Trump (“I haven’t seen white people this mad since the O.J. verdictâ€), the Black Lives Matter movement, Harambe, and how he’s going to give Trump “a chance†when he assumes the Presidency in January. Additionally, Chappelle closed the set by recounting a recent BET-sponsored party he attended at the White House, which made him feel “proud†to be an American and “very happy†about the prospects of our country. “So, in that spirit, I’m wishing Donald Trump luck,†he concluded. “And I’m going to give him a chance. And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one too.â€
