Dave Chappelle Unleashes Powerful Stand-up Monologue About the Year’s Tragedies on SNL

Straying from a traditional opening monologue format on Saturday Night Live, Dave Chappelle decided to open the show by performing a stand-up set dedicated to all of the various bad things that have happened in 2016. Throughout the short set, the first-time host touched on the new President-elect Donald Trump (“I haven’t seen white people this mad since the O.J. verdict�), the Black Lives Matter movement, Harambe, and how he’s going to give Trump “a chance� when he assumes the Presidency in January. Additionally, Chappelle closed the set by recounting a recent BET-sponsored party he attended at the White House, which made him feel “proud� to be an American and “very happy� about the prospects of our country. “So, in that spirit, I’m wishing Donald Trump luck,� he concluded. “And I’m going to give him a chance. And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one too.�
