You probably don’t know too much about the plot of Sean Penn’s latest directorial effort, The Last Face, mostly because the film was eclipsed by tabloid chatter surrounding the fact that Penn’s leading lady and then-girlfriend, Charlize Theron, unexpectedly broke up with him during filming. (It also didn’t help that the film received scathing reviews at Cannes and had a highly awkward press conference.) But if you’ve come here to actually watch the trailer and find out the plot, good on you and here you go — The Last Face follows a relief-aid doctor (Javier Bardem) and an activist (Theron) who are working in West Africa during a political and social revolution. Yes, there is much violent conflict, and yes, the two fall in love. It’ll be getting a U.S. theatrical release next year.
