Lin-Manuel Miranda Can Now Add a No. 1 Album for The Hamilton Mixtape to His Very Good Year

Congrats!

Because absolutely everything with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s name attached to it must be a massive hit, The Hamilton Mixtape has debuted on this week’s Billboard chart at No. 1 in America’s hearts. The collection of covers and Hamilton-adjacent songs sold 187,000 album equivalents last week (169,000 in traditional), making it the biggest-selling compilation album since Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music: Cruel Summer sold 200,000 four years ago. It’s also the first compilation to go No. 1 in two years, last done by Now 50. Of note for your Hamilton trivia: The original cast recording peaked at No. 3, but its mixtape — which features everyone from Ja Rule to Jimmy Fallon — pulled off the rare No. 1 feat. History buffs and hip-hop heads alike, your moment has now truly arrived.
