It’s going to be a merman minute or two until we get to see Jason Momoa as Aquaman again — the standalone film starring DC’s wettest superhero will not be released until October 5, 2018. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Warner was holding the date on its release calendar with an “untitled†feature, but made the date official today. (Earlier, the film was set for a July 2018 release.) The film will co-star Amber Heard as Aquaman’s love interest, Mera, and will be directed by James Wan, best known in the North American market for directing 2004’s horror hit Saw. Does this point to a dark and painful direction for our submerged pal Aquaman? Only a little under two years time will tell. Until then, we must be contented with next year’s Justice League appearance and our memories of Momoa in Game of Thrones (Drogo, we hardly knew ye!). Hey, at least when this film premieres, the world’s water levels will be appropriately higher — good marketing, Aquaman!
