Chromat consistently has some of the best models of New York Fashion Week. The innovative brand, designed by Becca McCharen-Tran, always features models with a wide range of backgrounds, body types, and gender identities.
McCharen sees no reason why designers can’t dress a range of bodies on the runway. “It’s a matter of whether you choose to use your pattern-making resources for non-straight-size [models],” she told the Cut in 2015. As her fall 2017 show concludes, we decided to showcase this season’s cast and learn a little bit about each model.

What makes you different? What makes me different is my desire to help others and love of seeing them succeed. In this generation, it is important for us to spread kindness and support each other. I'm confident that if we love ourselves and others, the world would be a better place. Oh, and I'm pretty unapologetic about my curves :). Photo: Courtesy of Chromat

What makes you different? I'm learning to love all that makes me different, which really is everything about me, there is only one you. I think my mere existance makes me different. I try to think more about what makes us the same. Photo: Courtesy of Chromat

What makes you different? What makes me different is I can put a smile on anyone's face regardless how different they are from me. People just naturally love me like they met me before, even if they haven't. Photo: Courtesy of Chromat

What makes you different? In my opinion, what makes me different is my subconscious stance to never give in to cultural appropriation. Yes, I am black (afro-Caribbean to be exact), but my interests are not in tune with the generalization of what my skin color is depicted to be in the collective, rigorously upheld in most societies, obliged mind-set of ignorance. To me, to admire and embrace another culture in the form of the progressiveness in equality, but to condemn them as being culturally inappropriate is a schism, which represses the movement of equality.
