If you’ve kept up with Chris Evans’s social-media imprint over the past few months, you know that the Captain America star has been unabashedly vocal about his political views, going so far as to call the election of Donald Trump an “embarrassing night for America†and having a heated war of words with David Duke. And you know what? He’s not going to stop anytime soon, even if some people in his inner circle would like him to maybe dial it down a bit. In a new interview with Esquire, Evans revealed that despite “advisers†telling him that engaging in public exchanges about politics could be seen as “risky†for his career, he couldn’t care less. In fact, he sees it as his duty to speak out. “Look, I’m in a business where you’ve got to sell tickets,†he admits. “But, my God, I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if I felt strongly about something and didn’t speak up. I think it’s about how you speak up. We’re allowed to disagree. If I state my case and people don’t want to go see my movies as a result, I’m okay with that.â€
Naturally, Evans also expounded on his latest Trumpian thoughts. He still can’t believe the man actually won the election, and (shockingly) isn’t so keen on Steve Bannon, either. “I feel rage,†he explained. “I feel fury. It’s unbelievable. People were just so desperate to hear someone say that someone is to blame. They were just so happy to hear that someone was angry. Hear someone say that Washington sucks. They just want something new without actually understanding. I mean, guys like Steve Bannon — Steve Bannon! — this man has no place in politics.†Captain, out.
