As any Ohioan would proudly tell you, Dave Chappelle was born in D.C., but he is a longtime resident of Yellow Springs, raising his family in the same town where his father William David Chappelle III worked as a professor at nearby Antioch College. As Pitchfork reports, the comedian recently visited the Village of Yellow Springs town council to discuss an incident in which two people were tased by law enforcement at a public New Year’s Eve ball drop, an event that counted Chappelle and his children as attendees. While praising the police for previous unspecified aid they had provided him, Chappelle called the tasing a “huge gaffe†and expressed his feeling that the town’s current law enforcement does not have a relationship with residents.â€We’re being policed by what feels like an alien force,†he explained. The comedian hoped reflection about the incident would lead Yellow Springs’ police force to be “a leader in progressive law enforcement.†Concluded Chappelle, “I would beseech the council to look deeply, and to look hard, because this is a golden opportunity.â€
