The wait is over: After more than three years and much ado in the week leading up to her return, Lorde is back. She’s released her self-described “unexpected†new single “Green Light†– co-written and co-produced with her bff Taylor Swift’s bff Jack Antonoff – to the masses with a video that finally fills the void in berserk interpretive dance left in her absence. Lorde tells Beats 1 that she challenged herself to write a song about her “first major heartache.†“It’s not something that I really am used to writing about. It took me a while to be able to figure out how to write about that,†she says. “I realized this is that drunk girl at the party dancing around crying about her ex-boyfriend who everyone thinks is a mess. That’s her tonight and tomorrow she starts to rebuild. And that’s the song for me.†“Green Light†is the first song off her long-awaited, teen-departing sophomore album, Melodrama, which Lorde says she co-produced and co-wrote entirely with Antonoff. Raise your creepy claw hands and get weird!
