With three Oscars and a cast of beautiful, nuanced men, Moonlight will expand to even more theaters this weekend. Initially released in late October, the movie will now open in 1,500-plus theaters, according to Deadline. Even though Moonlight is available to stream and rent online, there’s now another chance to see Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris, and the trio of Chirons on a big screen. A post-Oscars expansion is normal for Best Picture winners, but Moonlight’s is especially large: Previous winners Spotlight and Birdman only expanded to about 1,200 theaters. Barry Jenkins’s critically acclaimed indie is among the lowest budget and lowest grossing Best Picture winners ever.
