Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born reboot just got a little more homespun. As Deadline is reporting, the Lady Gaga–led feature — which starts shooting next month — today grabbed Sam Elliott for the role of “Bobby, the benevolent manager†to both Gaga’s rising superstar character and her “troubled lover/mentor.†As Vulture previously reported, various parties have been trying to kickstart a remake of this film almost since its last iteration was produced in 1976 with Barbra Streisand in the titular “star†role. It took Cooper’s considerable box-office prowess and Gaga’s Gaga-ness to finally bring it to life in 2017. And now, with word of Elliott’s casting, it feels like this tale has found the stable, common-sense spoke at the center of its metaphorical wagon wheel. Commence being born, star!
