Early on in The Age of Spin, the first of Dave Chappelle’s two new Netflix stand-up specials, he tells a story about the time he bombed at one of his 2015 comeback shows in Detroit. Though reports at the time had exaggerated that he got booed offstage, Chappelle clarifies in his routine that, in fact, “I was booed; I did not leave.†Chappelle then explains why he acted like such a bumbling idiot that night: He was unexpectedly high off his face. “I had smoked some reefer with some rappers,†he says. “I don’t know if you know anything about hanging out with rappers, but their weed is very strong. Stronger than I was accustomed to.†Well, at last, the culprit who gave Chappelle this storied pot has come forward to confess. Turns out, it was Detroit rapper and marijuana enthusiast Danny Brown who got Chappelle ridiculously stoned — and he’s damn proud of it. “Haven’t seen Dave new special but heard he gotta bit about that night I got him stoned to the gills … momma I made it!†Brown wrote on Instagram. The valuable lesson here being: If Danny Brown asks you to take a hit, and you planned on remaining lucid, just pass, don’t puff.
