Jim Carrey to Star in Showtime Comedy ‘Kidding’ Directed by Michel Gondry

Jim Carrey is reteaming with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’s Michel Gondry for his first starring TV role since In Living Color. Showtime announced today that Carrey is set to star in a new half-hour comedy in the works at Showtime called Kidding. Here’s the logline from Showtime’s press release:

In Kidding, Carrey plays Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children’s television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him – who also anchors a multimillion dollar branding empire. But when this beloved personality’s family – wife, two sons, sister and father – begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

The show is created and written by Dave Holstein (Weeds, Raising Hope), and Michel Gondry is attached to direct all 10 episodes. Carrey is also an executive producer on Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here, which was recently renewed for a second season.
