The 2017 Emmys were handed out last night, and in case you missed it, comedy made history in two categories. Lena Waithe became the first black woman to win the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award for her work on Aziz Ansari’s Master of None (watch her fantastic acceptance speech here), while Donald Glover became the first black person to win Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for his FX series Atlanta. Elsewhere, Veep won Outstanding Comedy Series, Last Week Tonight took home the Outstanding Variety Talk Series, and Saturday Night Live’s election year shows won for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series just as Billy Eichner reluctantly predicted last month.
If you missed Stephen Colbert’s opening monologue from the ceremony (including that ill-advised cameo from Sean Spicer, who helped create Jimmy Fallon Trump Hair-Tousle 2.0 with James Corden), you can watch the full performance below:
Here’s a list of this year’s comedy-related winners, including Creative Arts Emmy winners for Animated Program (Bob’s Burgers) as well as guest Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series, which went to SNL hosts Dave Chappelle and Melissa McCarthy:
