A behind-the-scenes documentary about Jim Carrey’s experience channeling Andy Kaufman for the 1999 biopic Man on the Moon is heading to Netflix. Titled Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – The Story of Jim Carrey & Andy Kaufman Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton, the documentary recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, and now it’s found a home on Netflix, according to Variety. The documentary uses hours of footage shot while Man on the Moon was filmed and also features a present-day Carrey as he “looks back at the resulting footage 18 years later, reflecting on how he and Andy came up in oddly parallel universes.†Spike Jonze is credited as a producer on the project, which is directed by Chris Smith. The film has received some positive reviews so far, with Variety calling it “ticklish and captivating†and The Hollywood Reporter praising it as an “original, unexpectedly affecting tribute to two distinctive comic performers.â€
