Donald Glover will host Saturday Night Live on May 5, the show announced on Saturday. Glover will also be the musical guest, under his alias Childish Gambino, making him the 12th person to perform double-duty on SNL, joining Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Drake, Blake Shelton, and Ariana Grande. Unlike the previous 11, Glover is the first to have gotten his break through comedy and acting and not music, having started out doing sketch with Derrick Comedy, then writing on 30 Rock and co-starring in Community. Glover won two Primetime Emmys and two Golden Globes for the first season of Atlanta, then won his first Grammy in January for the song “Redbone.â€
Glover will be promoting the second season of Atlanta and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, which premieres next month, while next year he’s starring as the voice of Simba in the new The Lion King movie.
