Thanks to an outpouring of fans after the news broke yesterday that Fox had canceled Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it appears to be extremely likely the show will find another home. According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Television “has plans to fight to revive the series†and has received “a number of incoming calls†from outlets interested in giving the series a new home. Among those outlets: NBC, TBS, Hulu, and Netflix. The streaming networks seem like the most obvious fit, THR notes:
Hulu could be a natural home for the series and has a history of giving new life to Fox/UTV comedies after reviving The Mindy Project for a multiple-season run following its cancellation by Fox. Netflix also could make sense, given the streaming giant handed out a two-season order for the studio’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt after NBC opted out of its initial straight-to-series order for what turned out to be a niche yet award-winning comedy.
It’s still up in the air what Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s ultimate fate will be, but given the number of interested outlets just a day after its cancellation thanks to the outpouring of fan support, it’s not looking so bad after all.
UPDATE: Or maybe it is looking so bad. Hulu and Netflix have reportedly passed on the possibility of reviving the series, according to THR. TBS and NBC, meanwhile, have reportedly “kicked the tires†on picking up the show, with Variety reporting that the option of TBS in particular is a “longshot.â€
