Nestled within the crowded summer festival lineup lies Curlfest, a one-day event in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park that’s dedicated to the celebration of natural hair in all its forms. At the fifth annual Curlfest this past weekend, the crowd was awash in afros, goddess locs, bantu knots, and braids, and talk of twist-outs and curl types flowed freely. The energy in the air felt like the living, breathing manifestation of the #BlackGirlMagic Instagram affirmation, and everyone was double-tapping all day long. Below, a look at a festival where the beauty, creativity, and versatility of black hair reign supreme.
