Amy Poehler has another directing project in the works at Netflix. According to Deadline, Poehler has signed on to direct a film for the streaming network titled Moxie, based on Jennifer Mathieu’s 2017 novel of the same name. Adapted for the screen by Tamara Chestna, the movie follows a 16-year-old girl “who is inspired by her mother’s past as part of the underground punk movement Riot Grrrl, and uses it as the catalyst to start a feminist revolution at her high school.†Poehler’s production company Paper Kite acquired the novel for an adaptation last year.
Moxie will mark Poehler’s second time behind the director’s chair. She makes her feature directorial debut in the upcoming Netflix comedy Wine Country, which boasts a huge list of fellow SNL alums like Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Paula Pell, Ana Gasteyer, and Emily Spivey, plus other stars like Cherry Jones, Jason Schwartzman, and PEN15’s Maya Erskine. Wine Country is slated to premiere on Netflix in May, after which we can wait for yet another feminist revolution to begin.
