When Gwyneth Paltrow consciously coupled Brad Falchuk in October of last year, the wedding looked like a pristine dream, with a “vegetable bounty†included. Now, in Paltrow’s new Variety cover, she reminisces on winning the Best Actress Oscar 20 years ago, and she revealed just one more detail about the nuptials: In his vows, her new husband referenced the little romantic comedy that could, Shakespeare in Love, a film you may have heard of. “I hope this isn’t too personal,†Paltrow said, revealing something extremely personal. “But in my husband’s wedding vows, he actually said it’s no coincidence that I played this muse, because that’s who I am to him, and his perception is that’s who I am in real life. It was really sweet.†In the film, Paltrow played the muse, lover, and collaborator to William Shakespeare.
Harvey Weinstein looms large over Shakespeare in Love: as producer, Weinstein fussed over the film’s casting and ending, and launched its campaign, then the most expensive in Oscar history. “He was a bully,†Paltrow said of the producer, who, in October 2017, was accused of sexually harassing her. “I never had a problem standing up to him. I wasn’t scared of him. I also felt for a period of time, I was the consumer face of Miramax, and I felt it was my duty to push back against him. We had a lot of fights.†But Shakespeare in Love, she says, remains an unspoiled confection.
