Before Black-ish and Grown-ish, there was just Tracee Ellis Ross’s character Rainbow Jackson. Meet Mixed-ish, the new sitcom from those other shows’ producers: The year is 1985 and Rainbow is 12, mixed, and the new kid at school. “Imagine being the new kid when no one in the world is like you,†present-day Rainbow says in voiceover. “But you have to understand: today’s mixed kids can look up to rappers, ballerinas, athletes, a president, and a princess. The only heroes we had were DeBarge.†After the hippie commune her family lived in is broken up by the ATF, Rainbow and her family (Tika Sumpter, Anders Holm) have to move to the — gasp! — suburbs. Mixed-ish is coming soon from ABC.
