See the Best Looks From the 2019 Pratt Institute Fashion Show
Last week, Pratt Institute celebrated its 120th annual fashion show by honoring Brooklyn-born Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond with the Pratt Fashion Visionary Award. The event also included a runway show featuring the top work from seventeen student collections from the class of 2019.
Standouts from the show included Ruojing Wang’s unisex collection that touched on the sinister side of sleep. She was inspired by an accident where she fell asleep on her arm, pinched a nerve, and almost lost the arm. June Woo created ruched clothing that looked ready to sell in stores while El Quesada used sustainable materials made from pineapples, called Piñatex, to update traditional Filipino silhouettes. Speaking of sustainable design, Alanna Josephine Beneroff incorporated found items from her parents’ house. Her top piece was a sweater lined in old Capri Sun pouches.
Social issues also influenced collections. Elie Romero incorporated immigrant issues into her collection while by Kyra Feng drew inspiration from her experience with bullying. Feng’s line included a clever design featuring two jackets sewn together speaking on the concept of the interconnectedness of bully and victim.
