As the Scream franchise itself taught us, in chapter three of a trilogy, it’s time to forget the rules. When it comes to the long-awaited third season of the Scream television show, it looks like tossing out the old and bringing in the new might be a breath of fresh(ly killed) air. According to The Hollywood Reporter, after being announced in October 2016, the six-episode third season of the MTV horror show, executive-produced by Queen Latifah and Wes Craven, will air over three nights on VH1 starting Monday, July 8.
Based on the description, the third season has strong I Know What You Did Last Summer vibes. Power Rangers actor RJ Cyler reportedly stars as “Deion, a local star football running back, whose tragic past comes back to haunt him and threaten his hard-earned plans for the future.†Dang, doesn’t it always? The rest of the all-new cast features Paris Jackson in her television debut, Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Tyga, C.J. Wallace and, this cannot be stressed enough, Mary J. Blige, who it stands to reason will either fight Ghostface or may in fact be Ghostface herself. A legend.
In an even more fun twist, Scream’s third season is actually the first to feature both the iconic Ghostface mask (as opposed to the first two seasons’ admittedly very creepy bootleg alternative) and original voice actor Roger Jackson. Truly, it’s the perfect combo to disguise the true identity of the masked killer, Mary J. Blige. (We’re hoping.)
