Thereâs a lot going on in the music video for Taylor âLGBTQ Allyâ Swiftâs âYou Need to Calm Down.â The rainbow-colored, bedazzled, and star-studded music video takes after its predecessor, âMe!â which was released in April. Swift brought in a gaggle of celebrities, but left a lot of her notorious girl gang out. Instead, she called up all her best girls and gays including RuPaul, Ellen DeGeneres, Todrick Hall, Hayley Kiyoko, Adam Lambert, the cast of Queen Eye, Billy Porter, Laverne Cox, Adam Rippon, Chester Lockhart, Justin Mikita, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ciara, Dexter Mayfield, and Hannah Hart. Plus, incredible drag queens impersonating BeyoncĂŠ, Katy Perry, Adele, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Taylor Swift herself. Oh, and Ryan Reynolds is there.
In âYou Need to Calm Down,â Swift and her pals live in some sort of trailer park heaven, lounging in pools, having tea parties, and just generally kiki-ing. But no haven is safe from homophobes with misspelled signs that must have taken all night. Billy Porter comes by and simply sashays them away.
But if you thought she and Katy Perry were actually going to make-out on Swiftâs family channel, you were sorely mistaken. The pair formally squash their beef, literally wearing burger and fries costumes and having a cuddle. âYou Need to Calm Downâ ends with Swift calling everyone to action with her petition for Senate support of the Equality Act, found on Change.org. Count the celebs in the new video and then, if youâre a real one, actually get GLAAD.
