A live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is looking at Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina to play Flounder and Scuttle, Ariel’s little fish friend and her wacky bird … mentor? Therapist? Spiritual guide? The remake of the 1989 animated film is also considering Melissa McCarthy for the sea witch, Ursula. Directed by Rob Marshall, the latest Disney live-action remake becomes more and more real everyday. Before we know it, we just may be faced with a photo-realistic seagull with Awkwafina’s voice coming out of it. The new film will feature all the songs from the original and a few new ones by Alan Menken (the 1989 film’s composer) and Lin Manuel-Miranda, who’s after the O to complete his EGOT. The Little Mermaid is just one of a few Disney live-action remakes that are currently up in the air, including Mulan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
