In its review of A Black Lady Sketch Show’s first season, Vulture said, “It never settles for just okay. Every sketch starts on one level, then keeps building on it until you have no idea how hilariously far from Earth it’s going to go,†adding that “its sketches are consistently clever and surprising, often concluding with twist endings that add a whole other layer to the jokes that had us rolling a couple of minutes ago.†It looks like HBO wholeheartedly agreed with this site’s assessment of the show — and to be honest, the unanimous critical praise — because the network has ordered a second season from creator, writer, and producer Robin Thede. In addition to Thede, Sketch Show stars Ashley Nicole Black, Quinta Brunson, and Gabrielle Dennis as its core sketch players, and is executive produced by Issa Rae.
