Jodie Comer, now an Emmy winner for her portrayal of the assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve, might be receiving her next Woman of Hollywood merit badge. According to Variety, she’s in talks to play the wife of a man who seeks retribution for her rape in a 14th-century French period piece. When a soldier returns from war to find a friend has sexually assaulted his wife, no one else but the soldier believes the crime occurred, so he takes his appeal for justice all the way to France’s king and requests a duel to the death — the country’s last legally sanctioned one to be granted.
Fittingly, the movie is called The Last Duel, and the names involved so far are huge. Ridley Scott is directing and Nicole Holofcener is co-writing the script with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who will also star. The movie has not yet been officially green-lit, but if it is and Comer comes onboard, she can actually check off two spaces on her actress bingo board with man’s revenge pawn and decades-younger wife. Deadline previously reported that “every studio in town is waiting in the wings for this one,†and if the movie gets the go-ahead it will go into production early next year.
