It’s been a big year for Netflix renewing shows only to reveal that those renewed seasons are also final seasons. Just last month, the streaming network announced that it had renewed GLOW for a fourth and final season, while the recently released trailer for season six of BoJack Horseman also came with the news that it would be the beloved animated series’ last. Now Justin Simien’s film-turned-series Dear White People has joined the club, which Netflix revealed today along with the news of a season-four renewal. The show’s third season premiered in August to mixed reviews, with The A.V. Club saying it felt “more like a gap year than a return to form,†Mashable saying it “tests your loyalty,†and Vulture’s own Matt Zoller Seitz describing it as “a train wreck of a season in some ways, but it’s a glorious one, spilling food for thought everywhere.â€

“I’m so grateful my little indie-that-could has made it to four seasons at Netflix!†Simien said about the renewal. “This show, along with the many talented storytellers it has brought into my orbit, has changed my life, and I can’t wait to create a celebratory final volume befitting such a transformative experience.â€
