17 Standout Looks From Dior's Guggenheim Gala
Last night, a crowd of artists, art patrons, and celebrities descended on the Guggenheim Museum for its annual International Gala: a celebration of the museum’s yearly artistic accomplishments, made possible by Dior. At 7 p.m., the Frank Lloyd Wright–designed rotunda, currently honoring its 60th anniversary and UNESCO heritage site designation, began filling with miles of black lace, white fur, and diamonds. A single electric-blue jumpsuit cut easily through the crowd of black-and-white attire.
The guests sipped Champagne, toured the museum, and made declarations like “You must be a dancer” and “You must be friends with so-and-so artiste.” Tuxedoed men escorted ladies in evening gowns, one of whom offered up her tuxedoed man to the Cut “any time you like.”
Other guests included Karlie Kloss, Uma Thurman and her daughter Maya Hawke, Charlize Theron, and architect Frank Gehry, one of the night’s honorees. The singer Christine and the Queens joined to take photos of the art after performing at the museum the night before. Feminist author and activist Robin Morgan presided over a stately bench, toasting others with champagne. And actress Zoey Deutch sat at her dinner table, speaking loudly of Kandinsky. At the very top of the room, Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri looked down at the crowd, laughing with a friend and wearing a white dress emblazoned with the question: “Are clothes modern?”
For dinner the guests dined on a rustic meal of roasted cauliflower and fluke amidst a table decorated with lush, alpine centerpieces and dishes illustrated with shrubbery. One self-proclaimed china and crystal enthusiast flipped the plates over to see who created them. “Of course! It’s Dior!”
Toward the end of the evening, Dior’s CEO Pietro Beccari stood up to recognize the fashion house and museum’s 7-year collaboration – “not a great year for relationships,” he joked – and their mutual devotion to beauty and innovation, saying, “Creativity adds value to everything. Creativity makes life richer.”
