See the Opening Ceremony Spring 2020 Collection
For Opening Ceremony, June was the start of the Year of Mexico. Co-founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon launched the project this June, spotlighting designers, artisans, brands, and talent from our neighbors to the south.
The year isn’t over yet, so for the spring 2020 collection’s look book, the brand tapped photographer Stefan Ruiz to shoot the clothes on some influential figures in the Mexican creative community — artists, actors, chefs, designers, musicians, photographers, and entrepreneurs. Called “The Familia: A Portrait Series,” the look book includes familiar faces like Jessica Alba, CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist Victor Barragán, RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Valentina, and even dog whisperer César Millán.
“Throughout our lives, and particularly through our Year of Mexico project, we have been privileged enough to witness the breadth of talent and soul that emanates from the Mexican community,” said Leon in a press release. “In our current political climate, and at a most crucial time to celebrate diversity on both our home front and abroad, we decided to bring together friends new and old who pioneer conversation in the global cultural dialogue.”
The first part of the collection launched November 5 on Opening Ceremony’s website and in its locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. The company is also donating 20 percent of first-week sales of the collection to Fondo Semillas, a nonprofit organization that works closely with women-led grassroots groups in Mexico to improve the living conditions of local communities and promote gender equality.
