A Look Inside the New Museum’s Spring Gala

The New Museum hosted its annual Spring Gala in person for the first time in three years on Monday. The night included an auction featuring artwork from artists like Ambera Wellman, Catherine Opie, Cynthia Daignault, Lee Quiñones, and Richard Hableton.

The three honorees of the night were Shelley Fox Aarons, Philip E. Aarons, and John Akomfrah. The Aarons have been longtime art supporters and patrons of the New Museum for 23 years. John Akomfrah is an artist and filmmaker whose show “John Akomfrah: Signs of Empire” was presented at the New Museum in 2018. Other notable attendees included Chella Man, Danny Glover, Quil Lemons, Marilyn Minter, and Willa Fitzgerald.
