The 32nd annual Gotham Awards, held in New York City on Monday, honored this year’s independent films and breakthrough TV series with a bit of shine. This early entry in the awards-season calendar specifically honors films with a budget under $35 million. That means the nominees in the Best Feature category includes movies such as Tár, Aftersun, and Everything Everywhere All at Once, which are expected to be major awards contenders, while celebrating films like Dos Estaciones and The Cathedral. The Gotham Awards also differ from many other awards ceremonies in that they have removed gendered performance categories, opting for one list of ten performers of all genders rather than the previous two gendered categories with five nominees each. Ke Huy Quan won Outstanding Supporting Performance for his role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won Best Feature. That made the A24 multiverse movie the only double winner of the night. In the noncompetitive section of the evening, both Adam Sandler and Michelle Williams received Performer Tributes during the ceremony, and the cast of Fire Island received the Ensemble Tribute. Below, the winners of the 2022 Gotham Awards.
