The 2024 Emmys presenters have been typecasted as their most iconic television roles — a double-edged sword in the acting world. Mekhi Phifer, Mindy Kaling, and Zach Braff stood in a fake hospital set to present Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, with the latter reminiscing on his struggling-actor meal of 7-Eleven hot dogs in a room full of rich people. Other archetypes gracing the stage tonight included TV dads, moms, lawyers, cops, and villains— yes, they had villains twice! Instead, they could’ve easily opened their mind to the more niche roles cast on television. Vulture staffers got to work and compiled a list of all the archetypes the Emmys missed this year. We salute you.
