Gloria Steinem, the feminist journalist and activist responsible for founding Ms. Magazine and the National Women’s Political Caucus in the height of the Second Wave women’s movement, turns 85 today. Steinem got her start as a journalist, famously going undercover as a Playboy bunny for Show magazine in 1963, before going on to help found New York Magazine five years later.
To celebrate her 85th birthday today, we put together a photo gallery of some of the most iconic moments in her life and career — from speaking at the Democratic National Convention to protesting and spending time with famous figures like Maya Angelou, Betty Friedan, and Sally Ride.
