The season-four Hacks trailer begins with voice-over of Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) talking to Ava (Hannah Einbinder) the way a Jurassic Park character talks to a velociraptor. “Well, aren’t you a big brave girl,” she says over slo-mo footage of the two walking down a hallway and parting ways. After the events of season three, the comedian and her former assistant turned head writer have made it to late night, but that’s where their problems begin. The duo’s push-and-pull dynamic resembles the 2019 Mindy Kaling movie Late Night more pointedly than ever, but Hacks still has flair of its own, like Megan Stalter as Kayla and a scene in which Deborah and Ava face off on a Las Vegas race-car track. Vroom vroom! Fresh off an Emmy win for its third season, Hacks returns on April 10.
