Another day, another Met Gala for the books. Celebrities, designers, and stylists alike all took over the Upper East Side for the 2024 Met Gala, titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and featuring the theme “Garden of Time.” Stylists dug into the archives for on-theme garden-inspired looks and the biggest red-carpet trends (outside of lace, corsets, and leather) included birds, lots of florals, and many nods to John Galliano. Tyla took over the red carpet in Balmain, Zendaya showed off two looks, and the Loewe crew, including Taylor Russell, Greta Lee, and Josh O’Connor, stunned. Loewe. Here’s everything to know.

Who was on the 2024 Met Gala red carpet?

Hosts Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth arrived first. And thank god because we needed a Zendaya Met Gala moment desperately and she gave us two! Tyla showed up in a “sand” dress and basically won the red carpet. There were lots of big first-time attendees like Ayo Edeberi, Lauren Sanchez, Taylor Russell, Omar Apollo, Mike Faist, Gracie Abrams, Nicholas Galitzine, Rachel Sennott, and Angel Reese. Plus, honorary chairs including Jonathan Anderson of Loewe and Shou Chew, the chief executive of TikTok, were there, but surprisingly, no big TikTokers made their red carpet debut.

We loved Gigi Hadid in Thom Browne, Lana Del Ray in Alexander McQueen, Cardi B in Windowsen, Gwendoline Christie in custom Maison Margiela, Emma Chamberlain in custom Jean Paul Gaultier, Zendaya in John Galliano, Jennifer Lopez in custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture. What was the theme again?

After last year’s ode to Karl Lagerfeld, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art decided on something a little less controversial. The exhibition put on by the Costume Institute is titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and focuses on forgotten and fragile garments, including current pieces by designers Phillip Lim and Stella McCartney, and archival designs from classics like Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Hube rt de Givenchy, to name a few. As for the dress code (yes, they are different), its focus was “The Garden of Time” and gave attendees the chance to take it very literally and play with the garden aspect or nod to time with more archival designs and pieces.

Did Rihanna Show Up?

Rihanna originally confirmed her attendance but a source told People she has the flu, so we missed a moment from her. Disappointing, but at least the event ended on time.
