Patti LuPone Can Shade Madonna With or Without Words

Patti LuPone, star of Broadway’s The Roommate, just went on Hot Ones with her actual former roommate, Aubrey Plaza, and somehow found a way to shade Madonna. To be fair, this time she was baited: The evergreen issue cropped up when Plaza, prompted by the show, asks LuPone to either “look into the camera and apologize to the pop icon†for calling her a “movie killer†or eat a very spicy wing. LuPone, Julliard-trained actress that she is, needs no words. She simply looks into the camera and tears into the wing with gusto, then throws away the bone.

She chooses to use words anyway, of course. “I’ve seen her onstage and I’ve seen her in a movie, and I went, ‘Umm, okay,’†LuPone explains. “There’s just some things some people can’t do, and you just got to admit you can’t do it, that’s all. Or don’t even try it.†For Madonna, we presume she is talking about “play Eva Perón.†It can be assumed that Hot Ones then asked LuPone about Glenn Close but the answer had too many expletives to air.
