Ed and Lorraine Warren’s demon-vanquishing love story is coming to an end. New Line announced that 2025’s The Conjuring 4 will be the finale for what The Hollywood Reporter calls “the main set of films.†Ed Warren’s big spinoff museum can crank out any number of additional Annabelles, Nuns, and Crooked Men. But Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson may soon be hanging up their rosaries.
The Conjuring-verse started in 2013 with James Wan’s original installment. It introduced the world to Ed and Lorraine Warren, fictionalized and highly romanticized versions of real-life demonologists. (The real Warrens were mired in controversy, both about their possibly scammy demon-hunting biz and claims that Ed had a relationship with an underage girl in the ’60s.) The initial Conjuring film spun off into two sequels, the Annabelle series, the Nun movies (prequels to The Conjuring 2), and 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona. The last Conjuring film will be directed by The Nun II and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’s Michael Chavez and scripted by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. It will hit theaters September 5, 2025.
