Chanel Ayan Thought Her Fellow Traitors Castmates Were Just Going Through It

We’ve all been there: falling deeper and deeper into conversations without understanding what the hell anyone is talking about. In an interview with the Gabbing with Gib podcast, Real Housewives of Dubai star Chanel Ayan shared that she had no idea who the non-Bravolebrities were on Traitors and was confused as to why so many people were confessing that they struggled through dark times. “I didn’t know the other people. Because the other people were like, ‘I’m a survivor, I’m a survivor…’ I personally thought they had survived things like me: female genital mutilation, I’ve survived malaria, survived typhoid, ebola, like drought, like everything!” she explained. “So I was like, ‘What have you guys survived?’ and then [Jeremy] is like, ‘I lost 40 lbs.’ And I was like, ‘Huh?’” She kind of has a point; people love to trauma dump in competition shows to explain why they need the money, so who’s to say that’s not what people were doing in the castle (besides maybe singing Destiny’s Child.) Also, Ayan describes herself as a survivor of the trauma she went through as a child, so it makes sense that that’s how she thought people were using that word. “I still didn’t understand them. I left and died, and that’s when I realized there’s a TV show called Survivor.”
