Introduction
The BBC Trust has completed a performance review of four BBC on-demand offerings. When it approved these offerings (which form the core of BBC iPlayer) in April 2007, the Trust committed to carrying out a review two years after they launched.
Findings
The review found that iPlayer has performed in line with expectations and that it has effectively promoted 'niche' or less well-known programmes, appeals well to its target younger audiences and represents good value for money.
The review also says future versions of iPlayer should ensure audiences continue to be able to find a wide variety of content, and agreed with the BBC Executive that more could be done to promote the parental controls on iPlayer.
