The music assessment includes a solo and an ensemble performance. Learn how to prepare, such as developing technical skill, expressive control, stylistic awareness and confidence.
The performance options will depend on the exam board. As well as the more traditional instrumental performances, students may be allowed to realise a performance using modern music technology.
The most important thing is that students and teachers understand the performance requirements and marking criteria. Performances must be longer than the minimum time required by the exam board, and performances are expected to involve:
accuracy of pitch and rhythm
interpretation and expression
Instrumental teachers will be able to help you choose the most appropriate pieces to play.
