Healthy eating advice for vegetarians

Advice for how those wishing to follow a vegetarian diet can eat healthily will not necessarily be the same as the advice for those who are not following a vegetarian diet. While there are some common suggestions, others are unique to vegetarians:

  • Follow the guidance from the Eatwell Guide and the eight tips for healthy eating. Try to ensure that foods from each food group are consumed.
  • Include meat alternatives in the diet, such as Quorn or tofu.
  • Make sure the diet contains enough protein – consider sources such as chickpeas, lentils and nuts.
