Or Just Wear an Actual Nightgown

Duskin designer Stephanie Tran collects, slumbers in, and goes out wearing Victorian-style nightgowns. (“When I sleep in them, I get up and go in the morning. It frees up so much time.”) Here, her tips on how to ready an off-the-rack nightgown for public consumption.

1. Hit the sleepwear section. “[Department-store nighties] are so durable, but I like lighter-weight ones, which can be pretty sheer. Make sure to get whatever slip you need for underneath: A silk, nude option always does the trick.”

2. Get the length right. “I like them to hit just below or above the knee. Use your scissors; I love a raw hem. Or use a skinny leather belt to modernize the silhouette and shorten the dress by an inch or two.”

3. Accessorize, but not too much. “I usually wear the nightgown with just flat leather sandals during the day. At night, a loose blazer and slightly chunky heels dress it up without being too prissy. Hair up, side-swept into a loose bun is, hands-down, the way to go.”
