What kind of hats do you make?
They’re really more headpieces and fascinators, which can be attached to the head with a comb.

I have a small head and look strange in most hats.
Me too, which is why I figured I would just make them for myself.

Where are you from?
I’m from south Texas, on the border of Mexico. There’s a huge sign in the middle of town with the number of illegal immigrants they’ve captured.

How does that influence your politics?
I think they should let people in. They’re taking the jobs that most of us would turn up our nose at.

They’re not trying to corner the headpiece market?
No, they’re not coming up here to steal our market niche and get press.
