Can I turn off animations on the website?

Yes, you can turn off most animations on the BBC iPlayer website which can be useful if you suffer from motion sickness.

We use animations on the BBC iPlayer website to create a smoother, more enjoyable experience. However, we know that for some people, even just a small animation can trigger motion sickness. If that happens for you, or you just want to turn off animations to save battery power or CPU usage, you can turn off (most) animations on the BBC iPlayer website. Here's how:

MacOS

  • Open System Preferences from your Applications folder
  • Click on 'Accessibility'
  • Select the 'Display' option
  • Tick the box next to 'Reduce motion'

Windows

  • Open your Settings
  • Go to 'Ease of Access'
  • Choose the 'Display' option
  • Under the 'Simplify and personalise Windows' section, set 'Show animation in Windows' to off

iOS

  • Open your Settings
  • Tap on 'General'
  • Tap on 'Accessibility'
  • Tap on 'Reduce Motion'
  • Turn the 'Reduce Motion' toggle on by tapping it

Android

  • Open the Settings
  • Tap on 'Accessibility'
  • The next step varies by the version of Android your device is running. If you see a toggle called 'Remove animations,' turn that on. If not, there may a section called 'Visibility enhancements' which you can tap to find a toggle called 'Remove animations.'

Still seeing animations?

If you’re still seeing animations, please ensure you are using a supported internet browser. You can see which browsers are supported on the following page: Supported internet browsers and operating systems.
