Artifact: The Wall Street Globetrotters

Onetime Yale basketball captain Josh Greenberg built the city’s premier white-collar basketball powerhouse from a network of former teammates and fellow Merrill Lynch analysts. Last Monday, the team won its fourth championship in the New York Corporate League, defeating a team of Madison Square Garden employees 73–58 on the storied MSG court. Below, the scorecard for that game.

1. Pat Powers, F, 6’7”, 205 lbs.
Played varsity basketball at Brown (class of ’04; met team captain Greenberg through a childhood friend). Averaged eighteen points and six rebounds per game in senior season.

Played varsity basketball at Princeton (class of ’03). Won Ivy League title in 2001 (lost to University of North Carolina in first round of NCAA tournament). Three-time All–Ivy League Team honorable mention.

3. Tim Roche, G, 6’4”, 195 lbs.
Played club volleyball at University of Michigan (class of ’04; met Greenberg through a high-school friend). Won 2003–2004 Big Ten club championship.

4. Paul Vitelli, F, 6’8”, 224 lbs.
Played varsity basketball at Yale (class of ’04); 2008 New York Corporate League finals MVP.
Private-bank analyst, JP Morgan.

5. Michael Smith, F, 6’4”, 215 lbs.
Played varsity basketball at Yale (class of ’04). Team defeated Rutgers in first round of 2004 NIT.
Senior media strategist, KBP advertising agency.

6. Josh Greenberg, PG, 5’9”, 165 lbs.
Played varsity basketball at Yale (class of ’06). Walked onto the team sophomore year. All-State player for Jamesville-DeWitt (New York) High School.
Investment banking analyst, Merrill Lynch.

7. Scotty Williams, G, 6’2”, 190 lbs.
Played varsity football at Penn (free safety; class of ’06). Team captain and All–Ivy League Team honorable mention in 2006.

8. Not Pictured: Matt Minoff, G/F, 6’6”, 240 lbs.
Played varsity basketball at Yale (class of ’04). Played professionally in Israel, 2004 to 2006. Could not make finals because of his job as a
mergers-and-acquisitions analyst at Allen & Co.
