Vanity Fair’s opening-night party for the Tribeca Film Festival last week stuffed the State Supreme Court building with many more celebs than could fit into editor Graydon Carter’s semi-private Waverly Inn. Not that many have tried. “I’ve read about it in the magazines,” said Whoopi Goldberg. “I heard it was just for his friends—and I don’t know him.” Edie Falco seemed to miss the old Waverly. “It’s fancy-shmancy,” she said. “It used to be just a little place. It’s in every gossip article now—not that I read them.” Kerry Washington had plans to finally go— if her reservation strategy worked. “To get in, you’ve got to pay your publicist an enormous amount of money,” she explained, “and then they make that phone call for you.”
