Brooklynite-for-life John Turturro excepted, the stars of The Bronx Is Burning seem ill-suited for their roles. Daniel Sunjata plays Reggie Jackson in ESPN’s eight-week mini-series on the 1977 World Champion Yankees, but he’s “not a huge baseball fan.” Even hitting an on-set home run “in true lefty fashion, over the right-field fence,” hasn’t turned him into a bleacher creature. (Nor did playing a gay major leaguer in Take Me Out.) “Are you going to see me at Yankees games now? Probably not,” he says. And Oliver Platt, who plays George Steinbrenner, admits he roots for the Red Sox. How are Bombers fans supposed to take that? “They’re just going to have to deal with it.” Any George insights? “He pays a lot of attention to his hair. We call it ‘the knife’s edge.’ He takes great pains to make it keep still.”
